How to Prepare for Installation

NOTE: Reaction Analytics Inc. supports the integration of iChemExplorer to a variety of HPLCs from different suppliers.  The iChemExplorer software is compatible with proprietary and open data formats.  Please contact Reaction Analytics Inc. to determine how the iChemExplorer may be made compatible for you application.  The information below refers to the integration of iChemExplorer with the Agilent HPLC.

The standard configuration of the iChemExplorer ICETray and ICEBox are compatible with the Model 1100 and the Model 1200 HPLC by Agilent.  Check the front right bottom corner of the autosampler for themodule number.  Reaction Analytics has performed integration of the Heater Stirrer Module with the 1313 and 1329 autosamplers as well as the 1367 well plate sampler.  Please consult with Reaction Analytics for suitability of the autosampler for integration.

The iChemexplorer "On-Line Software" runs on the PC that controls the HPLC.  The PC should control the HPLC with Agilent Chemstation.  ICE software should be compatible with all versions of Chemstation.

  • The PC should have a 9 pin male D-Shell connector for serial communication to the ICEBox
  • Microsoft Excel should be loaded to the PC to operate iChemExplorer software

The recommended stack configuration for the HPLC is as follows:

  • Stack One - bottle tray at top; degasser; pump; column compartment; detector
  • Stack Two - autosampler on Heater Stirrer Module

The configuration may require a longer length of tubing from the autosampler to the column compartiment.  The ICEbox adds four inches ( 10 centimeters) under the autosampler.  The tubing should be on hand for the installation.

One additional power outlet is required (110 VAC/5 Amp service - standard three prong plug; alternate power and plug configurations available for international locations).

The integration of the iChemExplorer ICETray and ICEBox is performed WITHOUT modification of the HPLC.  The hardware installation is typically complete in an hour with preparation.  Software installation may require coordination with the local Information Technology officer.  Manufacturer warranties and service contracts should remain in place.  Specified performance should be unchanged.  The HPLC may be returned to usual service at any time.

The chemistry in the HPLC should be performed in a vial with a crimped top.  The stir bar should be placed in the vial before crimping the top.  The top should be crimped as most chemistry is performed at elevated temperature.
